The “Infrapolitics” working group wants to find out what digital infrastructure is, how it works, and how it changes our world. The group works from the assumption that digital infrastructures will significantly define our lives and our possibilities – of interacting with and in the world – in the future. To find answers to their questions, the researchers visit such diverse places as Google’s research lab in New York, the master-planned city of Songdo in South Korea, the communitarian colony of New Harmony in the American Midwest, data storage centers or server farms. The group wants to find out how new infrastructures bring forth new forms of physical and social organization, how they change urban space, and how we can use them to shape the world in which we want to live.
